Tall buildings
Buildings that reach dozens of stories into the sky seem to defy possibility. When Stanhope started out there were hardly any tall buildings in London at all — we’re proud to have created some of the first, and some of the most recent and innovative features of the London skyline.
Tall buildings call for an enormous integration of specialised skills and experience to create something spectacular within extremely confined city spaces. Our most recent example is 8 Bishopsgate, the highest building ever to reach BREEAM Outstanding status for its smart approaches to construction and energy efficiency. It’s also typical of Stanhope’s mixed use approach to tall buildings, creating a concise slice of city with diverse occupiers and activities all stacked together.
Tomorrow’s skyscrapers must innovate to reduce the carbon footprint of going tall. They also need to work for people, and this no longer means fifty floors of pure office space. Tall buildings have to deliver the amenities, accommodation and other spaces that provide a balanced ecosystem for occupiers. Keep an eye on our projects at 70 Gracechurch Street and 1 Undershaft as we explore these possibilities.
